A Barron County teacher accused of having sex with high school students is headed to trial.

Fire officials have declared a wildfire that threatened the popular tourist town of Ely to be 100 percent contained. The Associated Press reports that the burn area is estimated at 175 acres. The containment effort got help from about 1.5 inches of rain that fell this weekend.

Hinckley American Legion commander Joe Jarvis recently announced that former Legion Adjutant and Commander, Al Wolter, will be the featured speaker at the May 28 Memorial Day ceremony. Wolter, a freelance outdoors writer and photographer, will have remarks that focus on an American Hero.

The Eskomos are 8-7 this season. They lost their last game, 18-13, against Deer River on Friday. Last year these same two teams squared off against each other and Pine City won 6-4.

The Dragons are 6-11 this year. They have a 4-3 record at Pine City. Today’s game is the second to last home game of the regular season for the Dragons.

Two people died and two others were hospitalized late sunday afternoon in a crash that between two vehicles on State Trunk Highway 35 near Prescott. With less than half of the delegates from House District 11B present at the DFL endorsing convention at Barnum High School on Saturday, no endorsement decision was made for who the Democrats will run against incumbent Republican Rep. Roger Crawford. Pine City Planner Nathan Johnson says he did receive the highest vote tally in the final ballot rounds of the convention garnering 53% of the delegates.
