The Recount Begins

The recount is officially underway in the race for the U.S Senate seat between Norm Coleman and Al Franken. Two area counties kicked off their recount this morning. Chisago County and Pine County are in the process of hand counting each of the ballots cast in the November 4th election. Over 14,000 votes were cast in Pine County on November 4th.

State forest classification plan completed for East-Central Minnesota

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has approved the final forest classification and route designation plan for six state forests located in an eight-county planning unit in East-Central Minnesota. The plan, which includes route designations for the D.A.R., Hill River, Land O’ Lakes, Savanna, Snake River and Waulenabo state forests, was developed in response to a legislative directive to re-examine vehicle use in all 58 state forests.

Arrowhead Transit Budget Cut, Pine County Loses a Bus

America’s economic hardships are weighing heavy on all facet of life. On Tuesday, the Pine County Board learned that now includes their upcoming public transit system. Jack Larson is the Transit Director with Arrowhead Transit. He told the board that Mn/DOT cut the system budget in half and that means Pine County will get one less bus when the service begins in January.

Members of the Pine City School Board and area teachers met at the elementary school Monday. They were given a tour of the nearly $7-million dollar renovation project that includes five new classrooms, a gymnasium, and new media center. Elementary Principal, Dave Arola, says once complete the additions will mean a new level of education possibilities for local students.
