Pick-Up Truck Breaks Through Ice In Anoka County

Four people are lucky to be alive after their pickup truck plunged through the ice on Peltier Lake in Anoka County Sunday.
There are areas of the lake where the ice has thinned because the DNR does use aeration systems in Peltier Lake. But, the driver of the pickup says he stayed away from those areas and was only about 50 feet off the plowed road on the ice when his truck fell through ice. He says the ice was only about an inch thick where his truck broke through.
KSTP 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS is reporting that the DNR is looking into what might have caused the thin ice on the north end of the lake, but has not definitively stated a cause.
Jim Flink says “I am just lucky I had my window rolled down, because we were able to escape out of the windows, before my truck went to the bottom of the lake.”
Flink says “I have been ice fishing on this lake, for 40 years, and I have never seen, or experienced, anything like this before.” Flink says he and two of his daughters and a friend of the family all escaped unharmed.
