Area Athletes Compete At State Cross Country Meet
The State Cross Country meet took place on Saturday in Northfield. Weather conditions were optimal as racers from all around the state competed in both Class A and Class AA action.
The Mora Mustangs boys team made State and came in seventh out of 16 teams competing in Class A. Mora’s finishers were Noah Moravec (23rd), Brendan Johnson (42nd overall), Alec Sanbeck (66th), Sam Johnson (79th), John Schwinghammer (110th), Cole Oslin (134th) and Michael Schwinghammer (162nd). Perham placed first in the boys Class A standings.
Other individuals finishing in Class A boys included Pine City’s Easton Foss, who came in 58th overall and was the only Dragon running. Chase Peterson of Moose Lake-Willow River-Barnum came in 139th.
For girls Class A, no teams from the listening area competed, but several individuals ran. Mora’s Brooke Wedin was the top local finisher earning 19th overall. Just a few spots later came her teammate, Bethany Coop of the Mustangs, who earned 23rd place. Nicole Tekippe of Moose Lake-Willow River-Barnum came in 55th.
Chisago Lakes’ boys team came in 14th overall in Class AA competition. Wildcats runner Andy Magnuson was the top finisher for Chisago Lakes; he placed 26th in the Class AA race. Forest Lake’s girls team earned 11th overall in Class AA. Emma Benner was the top finisher for the Rangers earning 30th.
