Large Marijuana Grow Discovered In Burnett County
In the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 8, 2013 law enforcement officers eradicated a large-scale marijuana grow located on public lands in the Wisconsin Town of Anderson, in Burnett County, after being alerted to its presence by hunters.
The area is located south of the Village of Grantsburg, and less than 10 miles East of the St. Croix River. In a press release we learned that the grow site included an extensive water supply and irrigation system, as well as a campsite for the individu als that were tending the grow. Evaluation of the scene indicates that the grow site had been active for some time, but had been recently abandoned. No suspects were located at or near the scene yesterday.
The Burnett County Sheriff’s Office reports that a total of 3,282 marijuana plants were seized during the operation, and investigation continues as to the identity of the suspect or suspects. The Burnett County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, St.Croix County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wisconsin DNR in the investigation of this incident, removal of the marijuana plants, and processing of the scene for evidence. The Sheriff’s Office reminds anyone that comes upon a suspected marijuana grow on public lands to leave the area immediately and report their observations to law enforcement.
