Crews Stop Fire At Crex Meadows
Crews have stopped the spread of a fire that got out of control during a prescribed burn in north of Grantsburg, according to the Associated Press.
A Department of Natural Resources spokesman said the DNR burn was supposed to be limited to 500 acres, but burned an additional 600 acres in the Crex Meadows Wildlife Area Tuesday.
The controlled burn was to restore wildlife habitat on that parcel of state owned land.
DNR crews were able to stop the fire’s spread with help from Minnesota air mutual aid. Thankfully, no structures were damaged and no one was hurt. The report states that the fire burned grass, marsh and some upland forest, including jack pine.
