Name Of Sturgeon Lake Man Killed In Lightning Strike Released

As we reported on Wednesday, a Pine County man was killed on Monday night in a lightning strike. We’ve now learned the name of that man.

Pine County authorities have confirmed that 53-year old Michael McGee of Sturgeon Lake was the victim.

At approximately 7:35 p.m. Monday, Pine County Dispatch received a medical call to an address on Alder Loop in Sturgeon Lake, MN.  The caller stated that a man had been struck by lightning and CPR was in progress.

Pine County Deputies, State Patrol, Moose Lake Rescue and Mercy Ambulance were dispatched to the location.  McGee was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake where he died from his injuries.

Further investigation showed that McGee was standing in a large puddle of water near a tree when lightning hit both the tree and McGee. A witness reported hearing a large boom.
