Near Miss Accident Reported On St. Croix

Tuesday, June 25th, 2013 at 6:53 am

A near miss accident happened on the St. Croix River over the weekend. The Pine County Sheriff’s office reports that on Sunday night around 5:30, Pine County Deputies and the MN DNR responded to a distress call near the Fox Landing on the St Croix.

The caller stated that there was a person in the river and they could not get them out. Upon arrival, responders located two counselors and eight campers on the shores of the river. Two of their five canoes had overturned in the extremely high waters from the recent heavy rainfall. One canoe had hit a dead head in the river and had become lodged under it.

Thankfully, the Sheriff’s Office reports that all parties were accounted for and no one sustained physical injuries. The Sheriff’s office is issuing a warning now due to the high waters, and is recommending that extreme caution be used on or near the rivers.
