Winter is just a fading memory, mostly, and the 2010 Hinckley Knights want to confirm the change of seasons as they kick off the 2010 baseball season this Saturday at Brennan Field.  The opening pitch is set for 2 pm on May 15th against the Anoka Bucs from the Metro Minny league.  Returning veteran Blake Chaffee is slated to start Saturday’s game for the Knights.

2010 should be an interesting year for the Knights as they look to improve on an overall regular season and playoff record of 17-14.  Hinckley won the Eastern Minny North title in 2009 edging out Mora for the top spot.  The season came to an abrupt end for the Knights, as they lost their first two games in last year’s region tournament falling to Forest Lake and to Big Lake.  Forest Lake and Princeton then advanced from the region to the 2009 state tournament last year with Princeton bowing out in game one, and Forest Lake falling in their second game.

This year’s Knights squad will have a few new faces, along with a solid core of returning veterans to support the roster.  Additions to this year’s squad include Blake Karas a left handed pitcher from Braham.  Blake played with Rum River the past two seasons and is no stranger to the Eastern Minny.  Another newcomer is outfield David Lovly who has moved to the area from Goodridge, MN.  David graduated from U of M Crookston this year where he played for the Golden Eagles baseball team the past three seasons.

Sunday afternoon, May 16th, the Knights open the regular season of the Eastern Minny West league when they travel to Mora for a double-header showdown with the Blue Devils.  The teams will play two 7-inning games, with the first game getting underway at 2 pm, and the second game after a short break following game one.  As Always, there is no admission charge for any regular season Eastern Minny game so come out and enjoy some great amateur baseball.
