Blizz Moving on in Playoffs, Dragons Split Doubleheader

BlizzThe Burnett Blizz are moving on in the Wisconsin hockey playoffs.  The Blizz’s offense comes to life in an 8-4 win over Baldwin-Woodville on the road at the United Center in Baldwin.

With the win, the Blizz improve to 14-9-1.  Up next, they will take on the top seed Superior on Thursday.  Hear the game on Classic Hits 105.7 WXCX.

On the hardwood Tuesday night, the Pine City Dragons boys team ends a two game losing streak with a 77-69 win over Hinckley-Finlayson.  Derek Lutz led the way for the Dragons with a game high 30.  Pine City heads north on Thursday to take on East Central who fell at Rush City 74-42 on Tuesday.

The Tigers remain in the hunt for the Great River Conference title.  They can take over first place with a win over Braham on Thursday in a game you can hear on WCMP-FM.  However, that will be no easy task.  Braham has won nine in a row including Tuesday’s 88-60 win over Aitkin on the road.

In girls hoops, Pine City falls  58-48 to undefeat Northwood.  The Evergreens went on a 20-5 run in the first half to take control.   The loss ends Pine City’s four game win streak. The Dragons go on the road for their next two, including Friday at Milaca.

The ladies of Braham roll past Isle 90-41.  It’s the second straight game the Bombers have put up at least 90 points.

Siren, Wisconsin native Molly Engstrom scored another Olympic goal for the U.S. women’s hockey team who beat Russia 13-o.  Engstrom has netted goals in the United States’ first two games.
