XC Runners Punch Ticket to State
The cross country season reached it peak this week with teams competing in the section meets. Thursday, teams like Pine City, Mora, Braham, Rush City and Hinckley-Finlayson hit the trails in Pierz for the section 5a championships.
The Mora Mustangs finished fourth, two spots out of a bid for the state meet, but sophomore Emma Johnson and junior Ashlee Bahlman both qualify for the meet individually. Johnson finishes seventh with a time of 16:13 and Bahlman tenth at 16:28. As a team Rush City finishes eighth, Pine City 10th, Braham 16th and Hinckley-Finlayson 18th.
On the boys side, the Mora Mustangs do qualify for state as a team. The Mustangs finish second behind St. Cloud Cathedral. Leading the way were Andrew Coop and Tony Nikodym who finish 12th and 13th overall. Rush City comes up just shy of a team trip to state coming in fourth, but Josh Wurdemann qualifies as an individual with his 6th place finish. Pine City finishes 7th as a team, and Hinckley-Finlayson 16th.
In 7AA, Cambridge-Isanti’s boys qualify for the state meet as a team with impressive performances from Desmond Cariveau, Joel Allen and Billy Eiffert. The Bluejackets finish second overall. North Branch finishes 10th overal. The Vikings girls come in fourth and the Bluejackets girls record a 10th place finish. Ali Zimmerman was North Branch’s top runner in 13th place.
