087The Vikings and Ravens are two of the best defenses in the NFL, but the offenses came to play, Sunday.   Steven Hauschka misses a 43 yard field goal and the Vikings win 33-31! WCMP/WXCX’s Sam Klemet blogs live from the Metrodome.

12:15 p.m.

Adrian Peterson scampers for a 26 yard run down the left sideline setting the Vikings up deep in Ravens territory.  Brett Favre connects with Sidney Rice for 16 yards, then two plays later hit tight end Visanthe Shiancoe for a 19 yard TOUCHDOWN.  Vikings lead 7-0.

12:26 p.m.

Brett Favre tosses his second touchdown pass of the game, a four yard strike to a wide open Bernard Berrian.  Vikings lead 14-0.

12:31 p.m.

Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco overthrows a wide open Derrick Mason down the left sideline for what would have been a Baltimore touchdown.  Vikings lead 14-0 and have the ball after a punt.

12:40 p.m.

End of the first quarter.  Brett Favre has led the Vikings to 14-0 lead with a pair of touchdown passes to Visanthe Shiancoe and Bernard Berrian.  In the quarter, Favre was 8/10 for 95 yards.  Minnesota’s defense continues to play well, giving up just 33 yards of total offense in the quarter.

12:52 p.m.

The Vikings return a Joe Flacco fumble for a touchdown and take a 20-0 lead, but the Ravens challenge the ruling on the field.  Play under review.

12:54 p.m.

Flacco fumble is overturned, wiping out a Vikings touchdown.  Minnesota still leads 14-0.

1:03 p.m.

The Ravens are pinned inside their 10 yard line to start a series for the third time today.  Chris Kluwe’s punting has put the Ravens offense in an uncomfortable position all game.

1:05 p.m.

Joe Flacco connects with Derrick Mason who makes an incredible over the shoulder grab to give the Ravens breathing room at their own 35 yard line.

1:10 p.m.

Vikings get the ball back after the Ravens fail to convert on a 3rd and 15.  Minnesota will start at their own 26 yard line with 3:22 to play in the second quarter.

1:14 p.m.

Vikings unable to pick up a first down and will punt on 4th and 6.  Two Minute Warning.  Ravens will get the ball back with one final chance to put points on the board before the half.

1:28 p.m.

Joe Flacco takes the Ravens down the field 71 yards in nine plays to set up a Steven Hauschka 29-yard field goal.  It’s halftime! The Vikings lead 14-3.  Brett Favre has throw for 121 yards and two scores, while Adrian Peterson chipped in 50 yards on just nine carries.  Minnesota’s defense continues to play well up front, but Joe Flacco is finding some holes in the secondary, something to watch out for in the second half.

1:43 p.m.

Second half underway.  A penalty gives the Ravens poor starting field position at their ten yard line.  They go three and out and are forced to punt.  Vikings defense continues to rise to the challenge.  Antoine Winfield out with a foot injury, return is questionable.

1:51 p.m.

Vikings are driving! Adrian Peterson is getting a heavy dose of carries to start the second half.

1:53 p.m.

Vikings drive stalls at the 22 yard line.  Ryan Longwell field goal good!  Vikings lead 17-3.

2:02 p.m.

We have a ball game.  Ray Rice runs for a 22 yard touchdown run to cut the Vikings lead to seven, 17-10.  Joe Flacco completed a pair of key third down throws on the drive to Derrick Mason and hit Todd Heap on a 23 yard throw which set up the Rice touchdown.

2:10 p.m.

Brett Favre hooks up with Sidney Rice for a 53 yard completion down to the Ravens 8 yard line, but the Vikings are unable to score a touchdown and settle for a 22 yard field goal from Ryan Longwell.  Vikings lead 20-10.

2:18 p.m.

End of the third quarter.  Vikings take a 20-10 lead into the final 15 minutes of play.  Sidney Rice’s 53-yard catch last drive gives him 114 yards on the day, which is his first game over 100 yards receiving this season.  Expect to see a lot of Adrian Peterson in the fourth quarter as the Vikings try to take time off the clock.

2:30 p.m.

Brett Favre finds Visanthe Shiancoe in the endzone for the second time today on a one yard touchdown pass on third goal.  The touchdown was set up by a Ravens pass interference.  Favre now has three touchdowns in the game and 218 yards.

2:45 p.m.

Joe Flacco helps the Ravens down the field and throws a 32 yard touchdown pass to a leaping Mark Clayton.  Baltimore is hanging around down 27-17 with 8:35 to play in the game.  The Ravens drive covered 75 yards in seven plays.

2:47 p.m.

Vikings respond to the Ravens touchdown with a 59-yard run by Adrian Peterson.  Minnesota with the ball inside the Ravens 15 yard line.  Peterson now has over 100 yards for the 18th time in his Vikings career, second only to Robert Smith.  Ryan Longwell drills a 30-yard field goal.  Vikings lead 30-17.

2:55 p.m.

The Ravens march down the field on just four plays to cut the Vikings lead to a touchdown.  Joe Flacco hits Derrick Mason for a ten yard score. The big play on the drive was a 63 yard pass from Flacco to Ray Rice.   Vikings lead 30-24 with the ball.

3:02 p.m.

Ray Rice runs for 33 yards and a touchdown and the Ravens have the lead for the first time today, up 31-30 with 3:37 to play.

3:07 p.m.

No more questions about Brett Favre arm or Sidney Rice’s hands.  Favre launches a 58 yard strike to Rice and set up the Vikings at the Baltimore 18 yard line with under two minutes to play.  Rice is having a career day with 176 yards receiving.

3:13 p.m.

Ryan Longwell hits a 31 yard fild goal with under two minutes to play and the Vikings recapture the lead 33-31.  The Ravens will get the ball back with no timeouts.

3:27 p.m.

Steven Hauschka misses a 43 yard field goal and the Vikings win 33-31!
