Dragons Win Crosstown Showdown – Olson 4 TD’s, Area Scores
Pine City head football coach Jared Polzine has called junior Adam Olson “The Freak,” because of the crazy things he can do with the football, but not even a mad scientist could concoct the performance, Friday, of Pine City’s offensive leader. Olson scored four touchdowns in the Dragons 26-14 win over Rush City.
Olson’s big night started on Pine City’s second play from scrimmage. After the Dragons defense forced the Tigers to punt after a three-and-out, quarterback Nate Wendorf connected with Olson on an 88-yard slant. Olson outran several Tigers for Pine City’s biggest play from scrimmage on the year.
Pine City scored on their first three positions. Olson ran in a 40 yard touchdown on their second drive and punched one in from ten yards on a fourth down early in the second quarter.
Olson says the credit goes to the offensive line.
Pine City jumped out to a 20-0 lead, but the Tigers didn’t go away without a roar. In the second quarter, senior quarterback Justin Bosman connected with wide receiver Jon Watts in the back of the end zone for a 22-yard touchdown pass. After the half, the Tigers got a 56-yard touchdown run from Josh Marty to cut the Pine City lead to just six, 20-14. But on the ensuing drive, Olson scampered 76 yards for his third rushing touchdown of the night.
Olson talks about his final touchdown.
Pine City improves to 2-1 and defeat the Tigers for a third straight year. They travel to Braham next Friday. Rush City falls to 1-2. Next week, they are on the road at Aitkin.
