[Audio/Gallery] Off to the Races – Pine City Invitational
Ten teams enjoyed a warm and humid Thursday afternoon of running at the Pine City Invitational Cross Country meet. Pine City Cross Country Coach Mary Anderson says the Invitational is a true community event.
North Branch won the varsity team girls race. Seven Vikings finished in the top 15. North Branch is off to a solid start this year. They finished third at last week’s Milaca Early Bird Invite and fight off Mora for the win on Thursday.
North Branch Head Coach Brian Hasleiet talks about his team’s success thus far.
The Mora Mustangs win the boys race. John Amundson and Tony Nikodym lead the way for the Mustangs who finish with 55 points. Amundson comes in third and Nikodym finishes fifth.
Mora Head Coach Chris Goebel on the performance of his boys:
The Mora girls finished in second, but winning the individual race was Mustangs sophomore Emma Johnson. Johnson is off to a fast start this year, after a self-described off-year in 2008. She came in fifth at Milaca last week and has set high goals for the rest of the season.
Milaca Senior Austin Bauer won the varsity boys race by over a minute. He says he thinks he can do better and has his eyes set on a state title.
