Webster Opens with Win; Siren, Frederic and Grantsburg Start Seasons Friday
The Webster Tigers start their 2009 football season with a blowout win. The Tigers route Lake Holcombe 36-6. Tigers will try to stay unblemished next week at home against Clayton.
The Siren Dragons will try to end a three year winless drought when they host Northwood/Solon Springs. The last win for Siren came on the season opener against Webster in 2005.
A pair of teams that also struggled last year will try to get back on track early in 2009 when Grantsburg takes on Spooner, Friday. The Pirates were 0-9 a year ago and the Rails were 1-8, but Grantsburg head coach Keith Lehne likes what he’s seen out of his team this off season.
