Tuesday Prep Scores
The Cambridge-Isanti boys continued their stretch of strong play, picking up their fourth win in their last five games with a 57-52 victory over St. Michael-Albertville Tuesday night. The Bluejackets hit 12 of their 15 free throws in the second half to hold off the Knights and to improve to 7-3 in the Mississippi 8 conference (11-7 overall). Guard Braden Johnson hit four 3-pointers en route to a team-high 16 points, with Zak Mathson adding 15 and Christian Metz 12. The second-place Bluejackets travel to conference leaders Buffalo (10-0 conference, 14-5 overall) on Thursday night.
On the girls’ side, St. Michael-Albertville took advantage of 29 Bluejacket fouls by making 32 out of 43 free throw attempts on their way to a 71-63 victory. The Bluejackets overcame a 12-point first half deficit and took a 5-point lead at one point in the second, but the conference-leading Knights used their free throw shooting and a strong full-court pressure defense to lead a comeback of their own. Whitney Olson led Cambridge-Isanti with 16 points and Kelsey Holmberg chipped in with 11 for the Bluejackets, who dropped to 6-5 in the Mississippi 8, 14-7 overall. They’ll take on Buffalo (8-4 conference, 11-11 overall) at home Friday night.
