The boys high school basketball season kicked off in thrilling fashion for the Pine City Dragons, who come back from as many as eight down in the second half to topple Aitkin 50-49. The Gobblers thought they tied the game as time expired, but officials said, Nick Sundholm’s toe was on the three point line, and his last second shot was a two not a three helping the Dragons escape at home with a one point win.

Derek Lutz led the way for Pine City with a game high 29, including 18 in the second half. Dragons take on Rush City Friday.

Pine City’s girls team also in a close one, but they sneak out a win on the road over Ogilvie 60-55. The Dragons have now won two straight.
