Volleyball Teams Ready, Twins tied for Central Lead

The high school volleyball season enters its second week of action. Tonight, Pine City faces Hinckley-Finlayson, Mora takes on New London Spicer, It’s a showdown in Braham as the Bombers host Rush City, Cambridge-Isanti travels to North Branch, and East Central goes to Moose-Lake Willow River.

The Twins start the final month of baseball’s regular season with the day off. Minnesota enjoyed the Labor Day break as they get ready to head to Canada to take on the Blue Jays in a three game stint starting tonight at 6:05p.m. Twins are 5-6 so far on their 14 game road trip and are again tied with the White Sox for the AL Central lead. Both Minnesota and Chicago trail Boston by three games in the Wild Card. Hear tonight’s action on Cool Country 100.9 WCMP-FM, starting with the pregame at 5:35 p.m.

The Brewers seem to have a tight grip on the NL Wild Card, despite a 4-2 loss to the Mets Monday. Milwaukee owns a 5.5 game lead over the Phillies and a 6.5 game lead over division foe St. Louis. Yesterday, a Carlos Delgado homer in the 8th gave the Mets the a 3-2 lead, and they didn’t look back. Game two of three New York is tonight at 705.

The Gophers football season got off to the right start on the field, with a win against Northern Illinois Saturday, but off the field is another issue. Star recruit MarQueis Gray will not play this season because he is academically ineligible. Gray said in a statement that he plans to clear up his situation this fall and rejoin his teammates. Minnesota travels to Bowling Green this Saturday,
