Nathan Blows Save, Twins Lose

Volleyball season gets underway tonight in Pine City. The Varsity, JV, and Freshman teams all in action. They take on Zimmerman at home. The Varsity girls tennis team also will lace them up tonight, they take on Aitkin at Pine City.

For the second straight night, the Twins bullpen fails to do the job, and give up a a late lead, and Minnesota falls 4-2 to Seattle. Alexi Casilla started the scoring with a one run single in the third, and Delmon Young added an RBI single in the eighth, giving the Twins a 2-1 lead heading into the final frame. Andrian Beltre was able to come home on a double play ball in the nineth, but two innings later, he drilled this walk off homer to give Minnesota its third straight loss. Beltre’s homer comes off of Jesse Crain. Joe Nathan who blows just his fourth save of the season.

Francisco Liriano gets the no decision despite another impressive outting, going six innings giving up just one run. Twins are now a full game back of the White Sox in the AL Central, and a game-and-a-half back of the Red Sox in the Wild Card. Scott Baker takes the Hill tonight, against Ryan Rowland-Smith. The Brewer enter tonights contest with the Cardinals three and a half games up on the Red Birds in the wild card. The two teams begin their two game series in St. Louis with the first pitch set for 7:15p.m. Ben Sheets squares off against Todd Wellemeyer.

Minnesota quarterback and highly touted recruite MarQueis Gray is off the team for unspecified eligibility issues. Head Coach,Tim Brewster, did not comment on Grays status and says he won’t until the issue is resolved. The Gophers open the season Saturday at home against Northern Illinois.
