[Audio] Pair of Triples Down Twins, High School Sports Season Starts Today

The High School Sports season kicks off this week. On Monday, the Pine City, Braham, Cambridge-Isanti and other area cross country teams travel to Milaca for their opening meet of the season. The Dragon women will hit the tennis courts Monday morning. They go to Litchfield for a Varsity and JV tournament.

The Twins 5-3 loss to the Angels in Los Angeles on Sunday was a lot like the four game weekend series as a whole. Minnesota jumped out to a 3-0 lead, highlighted by a Justin Morneau solo homer in the sixth, but the Angels responded quickly starting with a Mark Teixeira home run in the bottom of the sixth. A pair of triples by Vladimir Guerrero and Gary Matthews Jr, put L.A. ahead for good, and end the series with a 2-2 split. Minnesota took the first two games of the four game set, only to drop the last two. Minnesota falls a half game back of the White Sox in the division and a game behind the Red Sox for the Wild Card. Ron Gardenhire’s club start a three game series with Mariners on Monday. Minnesota swept the M’s last weekend.

The Brewers continue to scorch in the late summer months. Milwaukee has won four straight and complete the sweep of the Pirates, 4-3 on Sunday. Mike Cameron led the way with an RBI single in the sixth and homer in the eighth. Brewers get the night off Monday. They travel to the “Show Me” state for a two game midweek series with the Cardinals. Brewers clinging to a 3.5 game lead over St. Louis in the Wild Card

Vikings Quarterback Tavaris Jackson says he has “no doubt at all” that he will be ready for the september 8th season opener against the Packers. Jackson sat out Saturday’s preseason loss to the Steelers. He continues to nurse his right knee which he sprained a week ago.
The Olympics came to an end yesterday in Beijing. The US finished with the most overal medals with 110, but China captures the most gold, with 51, the United States won 36
