Braham Boys basketball defeated Rush City 86 to 67 on Friday.
Until this year, Rush City’s girls basketball hadn’t beaten Braham since 2006. This year that changed.
The Tigers already knocked off the Bombers in January. On Thursday they knocked off the Bombers again; this time by a score of 50 to 46.
Rush City led the entire game. They scored the game’s first 12 points and held Braham scoreless until more than three minutes had gone by in the game. The Tigers’ largest lead of the game was 13 points.
Braham was able to claw back within striking distance. But they could only cut the deficit as low as one point. After Angela Bendickson scored to make cut Rush City’s lead to 47-46, the Tigers’ Elena Herberg was fouled. She hit two free throws to put Rush City up 49-46 (ironically this was the final score of the first meeting between these schools this year). Then with 6.6 seconds to play Kayla Nelson was fouled and made one of two free throws to put the Tigers up by four and seal the victory.
The win improves Rush City to 16-2. They have now won 16 consecutive games. Their next game will be next Friday against Aitkin.
Braham falls to 13-9 with the loss. Their next game will be against Moose Lake-Willow River on Tuesday.
