Our spring sports schedule gets underway this evening with a fast pitch softball game going down in Grantsbrug between the Pirates and the Pine City Dragons. The first pitch is at 5pm and the game will be heard on SAM1057 with Jesse Logan on the call.
Both teams are opening their spring schedules this afternoon after weeks of preparing. The Pirates had a phenomenal 20-game winning streak to start the season last year before they suffered a disappointing loss to Hurley in the sectionals to finish with a 20-1 record. Grantsburg was also 20-1 in 2010, and of course won the State Tournament back in 2009 for their second State Championship.
The Dragons were a .500 ball club last year and will look to improve on that mark. Catch the game on SAM1057 Monday night at 5pm.
The hockey player who was paralyzed earlier this year is now without a neck brace according to the Associated Press. With their 52-46 win, the Perham Yellowjackets finished third in the Class 2A Boys Basketball State Tournament.
The 3rd place game in the Class 2A State Tournament between the Perham Yellowjackets and the Braham Bombers started at noon at Concordia University. The game was heard live on 100.9FM, WCMP. Tonight the Braham Bombers’ quest for another State Championship came to an end when Plainview-Elgin-Millville defeated the Bombers 84-67 in the semi-finals of the Class AA State Basketball Tournament. Braham will play again on Saturday though. They will play in the third place game at noon against Perham.

High School Hockey season has wrapped up but hockey talk is still peculating in a few local area school districts. In fact, right now talks are underway that could result in a larger co-op between the hockey teams at four local schools.
Tonight on WCMP-FM we broadcasted a boys State Tournament basketball game between St. Croix Lutheran and Braham. The Bombers won in thrilling fashion, 81-78. The Bombers will now advance in the State Tournament and play again on Friday night.
The St. Croix Lutheran Crusaders finished the season 24-7. The loss snapped a 13-game winning streak. They advanced to the State Tournament with section playoff wins over Cristo Rey Jesuit, St. Agnes, New Life Academy, and Concordia Academy-Roseville.
The 30-1 Braham Bombers are ranked number one in class 2A. Their only loss of the year came in the first game of the season, since then they’ve rolled off 30 straight wins. They punched their ticket to the State Tournament with section wins over Rush City, Moose Lake/Willow River, Virginia, and Esko.

It was a magical night for the Braham Bombers boys basketball team on Saturday night. Not only did the team come back from a 10-point halftime deficit to beat the Esko Eskomos 81-73, but they did so with a memorable performance by senior guard Tyler Vaughan, who set a school single-game record with 53 points.
