More Roster Moves By The Twins
The Twins wrap up Spring Training with games against the Boston Red Sox today and tomorrow at 12:05pm on COOL COUNTRY, WCMP-FM 100.9
Meantime, the Twins have made a series of roster moves on the verge of the 2014 MLB regular season.
Outfielder Chris Parmalee and pitcher Scott Diamond were released Thursday, the team said. Center fielder Alex Presley was picked up off waivers by the Houston Astros.
Parmalee will report to AAA Rochester.
Diamond has 48 hours to decide whether to join the organization with AAA affiliate Rochester or declare free agency. Diamond went 6-13 with a 5.43 ERA for the Twins last season, his worst in three seasons as a pro.
Presley was in consideration for a starting outfield job when spring training began, but now won’t even be on the Opening Day roster. The fifth-year center fielder hit .283 in 113 at-bats last season with the Twins after he came over from Pittsburgh mid-season.
Parmalee spent three seasons with Minnesota. He hit .228 with eight home runs and 24 RBI last season.
The Twins also announced Thursday that Jason Bartlett has made the Opening Day roster and will serve as a utility player. Bartlett was signed by the Twins as a free agent in November. He previously played for Minnesota from 2004 to 2007.
The Twins open the regular season Monday afternoon on WCMP-FM 100.9 when they visit the White Sox in Chicago.
