Gophers Women’s Basektball Team Snubbed From NCAA Tournament

Tuesday, March 18th, 2014 at 8:13 am

Late Monday, the Minnesota Golden Gophers Women’s Basketball team found out where they’ll be participating in playoff basketball, and unfortunately it won’t see them in the NCAA tournament, instead receiving an NIT bid.

The selection comes only a day after the Gopher men’s team found out it will also be in the NIT, having attained a #1 bid. The women’s team entered as part of an “automatic” bid.

The Gopher women head to the National Invitation Tournament for the second straight season and for only the third time since Pam Borton’s start as head coach over 11 years ago.

The Gophers are set to take on the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay in the first round of the women’s NIT on Wednesday.

Minnesota finished the BIG 10 season in sixth place, attaining a 20-13 record.
