Vasaloppet Art Show Friday-Sunday
The Kanabec Country Art Association will sponsor the annual Vasaloppet Art Show at St. Mary’s Parish Center in Mora Friday-Sunday, Feb. 7-9, 2014. This art show is held in conjunction with the Vasaloppet Ski Race in Mora. More than 45 area artists are expected to display over 140 works of art in the show.
Several demonstrations by local artists will highlight the Art Show. On Saturday, February 8th, Lauri Rockne will demonstrate making and playing a PVC flute at 11am. At 2pm Carl Long will demonstrate basket weaving. On Sunday, February 9th, Carl Long and Terri Huro will demonstrate screen printing of tee shirts with the Art Saturday logo. At 1pm, Deb Newton Frantz will demonstrate creating fish whistles.
Bethany Whitehead, Director of the Banfil Center for the Arts in Fridley, will lead a gallery tour and comment on the art in the show on Friday evening, February 7, starting at 7 pm. Bethany is also a former President of WARM, a womens’ art organization and has served as a long time tour guide at the Walker Art Center.
As in the past, artists will donate work for a silent auction. Proceeds from this auction will go to the KCAA scholarship fund, a fund to help local students in their study of the arts.
The show is free and open to the public from 1-9 pm on Friday, February 7. On Saturday, February 8, the show is open from 10 to 5 and on Sunday, February 9 from 10-4.
