Wolves Win, Wild Lose
The Timberwolves pulled out an important win last night beating the 76ers 106-99 to get back to .500. The Wolves are now 11-11 on the season. Minnesota was playing in front of a pretty sparse crowd last night at Target Center and looked sluggish in the first half. The Wolves trailed the Sixers 39-20 after the first quarter but battled back by scoring 28 points in the second quarter, 30 in the third, and 28 more in the fourth quarter.
The Wolves were led by Kevin Love who poured in 26 points and pulled down 15 rebounds, but the play of Ricky Rubio ignited the team. Rubio had one of his best offensive nights of the season with 21 points and seven assists while hitting two three pointers. Nikola Pekovic also had 20 points and 10 boards. The Wolves had lost 7 of their last 10 games, and although this win means nothing in the big picture, a loss would have been devastating. Minnesota is currently a game and a half out of the final playoff spot int he West. the wolves are off today but are at San Antonio tomorrow night.
The minnesota Wild weren’t so fortunate last night, they lost 2-1 at the Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks have been one of the better teams in the NHL all season and came in fourth in the league in goals per game. Minnesota did a good job limiting Anaheim offensively, but couldn’t muster much much offense on the night scoring just one goal, and that goal came in the third period on a power play. Jason Pominville was assisted by Ryan Suter, Mikko Koivu. Josh Harding stopped 29 shots but the Wild were outshot 31-24. Minnesota falls to 10-18-5 with the loss and will play at San Jose tonight.
