MN Firearms Deer Harvest Numbers Down Slightly
Minnesota’s firearms deer harvest so far this season is down 6 percent from the same point last year, according to an Associated Press report.
Two weekends into the season, the Department of Natural Resources says hunters have registered 128,814 deer. The season ended Sunday for all but northeastern Minnesota, where the season runs through this coming weekend. A late firearms season begins in southeastern Minnesota on Saturday and runs through Dec. 1.
Leslie McInenly, the DNR big game program leader, tells the AP that the weather on the past two weekends probably had an impact. The opening weekend was windy and cold, while this past weekend was rainy Saturday before the weather improved Sunday.
Minnesota’s wolf season opened at the same time as the firearms deer season. The northeast zone was closed Sunday. Hunters registered 31 wolves there.
