No College GameDay Show, But Still A Huge Matchup Saturday Between Gophers And Badgers
There’s a pretty big college football game going on this Saturday at TCF Bank Stadium between the Gophers and Badgers, although ESPN’s College GameDay road show won’t be attending. On Monday, ESPN announced that the crew instead selected this weekend’s Baylor-Oklahoma State matchup for their on-location pregame show. It’s not that much of a surprise, but given the fact that both the Badgers and the Gophers are ranked and the two teams have the longest-running rivalry in Division-1 football, dating back to 1890, and that both teams are ranked, it seemed like at least a possibility.
The Gophers had their second bye of the season this past weekend while the Badgers rolled Indiana, 51-3. Minnesota did sneak into the BCS standings as other teams dropped out. Minnesota is No. 25 in the BCS, but they did not make the AP top 25. Minnesota is ranked No. 23 in the USA Today coaches’ poll.
Saturday’s kickoff has been announced for 2:30 p.m. Over the span of time since 1890, the two teams have played 119 games and Minnesota leads 59-52-8. This is the longest continuous major college rivalry in football.
