VIkings Name Freeman Monday Night Starter

The Vikings have now formally announced that recently acquired quarterback Josh Freeman will start Monday night’s Week 7 game against the Giants. The announcment ends a lot of speculation.

The plan was for the Vikings to settle on a starter by Wednesday so that whoever it ended up being could gain some chemistry with the first-team offense during the practice week. But after the terrible performance by Matt Cassel and the offense at MOA field on Sunday, it would have been a major surprise had Freeman not been named the starter.

Christian Ponder will be the No. 2, while Cassel will be inactive or possibly even released. NFL insider Ian Rapoport adds that the Vikings “loved [Freeman] predraft, and are impressed now.”

Freeman will be the third starting quarterback the Vikings have used this season when they play their sixth game of the year on Monday night against the 0-6 New York Giants.
