Democratic Lawmakers Pushing Medicinal Marijuana Bill In Wisconsin
Wisconsin Democrats are pushing again to legalize marijuana for medical use in the state.
The Associated Press reports that Rep. Chris Taylor of Madison and Sen. Jon Erpenbach of Middleton held a news conference Thursday to announce a new bill, saying marijuana can provide pain relief other medication doesn’t.
The AP notes that democrats have been pushing for years to legalize medical marijuana. They introduced a similar bill in 2010, when they had complete control of state government, but the measure went nowhere after a public hearing. The AP reports that dems brought it back in 2011, when Republicans controlled the Assembly and Senate and “the measure didn’t get so much as a hearing.”
The new bill faces tremendous opposition as well. Republicans still control both houses, but recent legalization efforts in other states are serving as an example that minds are beginning to change on the topic.
