The body of a 69-year-old Wisconsin was recovered following a drowning on Lake Namakagon on Friday and a subsequent search, Bayfield County authorities are reporting.

The Bayfield County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that the body of Gerald Buss of Cottage Grove was recovered in about ten feet of water at 12:15 p.m. Sunday.

According to the report, Buss and a friend were fishing from a boat when Buss fell into the lake north of Rice Lake on Friday. Despite attempts to rescue him, he went under the water and didn’t come back up.

Buss was not wearing a personal floatation device, authorities said.

The Bayfield County Coroner has determined Buss’s death to be an accidental cold water drowning.
