State Patrol: ATV Driver Killed In Itasca County

The driver of an all terrain vehicle died in a collision with a semi-truck being escorted by the State Patrol in Itasca County Monday night.

The State Patrol reports the man killed was was 62-year-old Brian K. Johnson of Maple Plain, and he was driving a 2008 Polaris Sportsman. The semi driver is identified as 62-year-old Keith O. Moellering, of Nashwauk.

The crash happened on Highway 65 south of Pengilly at 10:34 p.m. Authorities said the ATV was southbound on Highway 65 and collided with a wide-load tractor-trailer that was headed north.

Though the crash happened in the southbound lane, the Patrol said the tractor-trailer had warning lights, flags, and signs and was being escorted by the State Patrol.
