Chisago County Board; Montzka Says County Levy Will Go Down

Thursday, August 29th, 2013 at 6:11 am

The Chisago County Board Chair Ben Montzka has announced that his board voted to set the 2014 preliminary property tax levy for Chisago County $50,000 lower than the 2013 levy. Montzka pointed out that under state law, the final county levy, which will be adopted by the County Board in December, 2013, can be set even lower than the preliminary levy but cannot be set higher than the preliminary levy.

“Chisago County homeowners and businesses need a break during this difficult economic period,” Montzka stated. The final county levy for 2014 will be no higher than $31,347,021. This represents the sixth year that the county tax levy has remained the same or been cut.

“Chisago County employees have worked very hard to continue to provide excellent local services in the face of significant funding cuts,” said Montzka.

Montzka represents the communities of Wyoming and Stacy on the Chisago County Board of Commissioners. He was first elected to the County Board in 1998. He lives in Stacy.
