Shell Lake Man Dies In Weekend Crash

A Shell Lake died in the early morning hours Sunday after a crash near the Highway 64 exit on Highway 53 in Bloomer. WEAU reports the accident happened at 4am.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department reports that 26-year old Aaron Nickels was driving in the wrong direction on Highway 53, causing a head-on collision with another vehicle.

Nickels was thrown from his vehicle and pinned underneath it. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

WEAU reports that the other driver, 60-year old William Zutter of Elk Mound, was taken to the hospital and has since been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
