Weekend Wins Propel Mora’s Blue Devils To Regions

Monday, July 29th, 2013 at 8:03 am

The Mora Blue Devils were already the Regular Season Champions in the Eastern Minny League East, but over the weekend they added another accomplishment this season. By defeating the Ogilvie Outlaws 12-2 on Saturday and the Hinckley Knights 4-3 in a 15 inning thriller on Sunday, the Mustangs won the Eastern Minny League East playoffs and qualified for the Region 1C Tournament to be held in Hinckley this weekend. With the wins, the Blue Devils improved to 23-4 overall.

Mora will now play again Saturday, August 3 at 7:00 against either Princeton or the Sartell Stone Ponies, who play Wednesday night in Princeton. Rum River and Clear Lake have also qualified for the Region Tournament.

There are still three unfilled spots that will be determined this week. The aforementioned Princeton/Stone Pony match up will allow one team to advance to Regions. The Quamba/Hinckley game on Wednesday night at 7:30 in Hinckley will also determine an entrant, and Sartell Muskies will host St. Joseph Tuesday night to determine another qualifier. So by Wednesday night, the region field will be set.

Regions will be a six team, double elimination tournament with the top two teams moving on to the State Tournament, which starts August 16 in Maple Lake and Delano.
