It’s finally here Vikings fans, the 2013 season begins today.

The Vikings are reporting to training camp in Mankato on Thursday, and their first practice will be held Friday. This is the 48th year in a row that the team has held it’s camp in Mankato. While on campus, the Vikings will have new lodging, residing in the Julia Sears Residence Community building, which opened in 2008. The team stayed in Sears hall once previously but have primarily resided in the Gage Hall in past. The Vikings were the last residents of Gage Hall, which closed after the team’s 2012 training camp and was demolished last month on June 29.

On the field, all eyes will be on quarterback Christian Ponder. The Florida State product is entering his third season in Minnesota and it will be crucial to see him progress further. Ponder led the Vikings to four straight wins to close out the 2012 regular season but was unable to play in the team’s loss to Green Bay in the playoffs.

Defensive linemen Jared Allen and Kevin Williams are both entering the final years of their respective contracts with the team. Adrian Peterson has set 2,500 rushing yards as a goal this season, and the Vikes will also be looking to get three rookies picked in the first round into the mix.

We’ll cover the Vikings this season extensively on Cool Country 100.9 FM.
