Greenway To Have Knee Surgery Today
Today linebacker Chad Greenway will undergo arthroscopic surgery for a previously unknown knee issue. The news was announced on Tuesday,
Coach Leslie Frazier said that the minor scope will allow Greenway to come back for the start of training camp.
Apparently the player and the team just wanted to get it done right now, rather than run into a situation where the knee would bother Greenway in camp and cause him to miss time.
ESPN1500 reports that Greenway had some residual fraying of the meniscus in the knee. It’s expected to be an easy cleanup job, and recovery should take only a few weeks.
Greenway, 30, never appeared on the injury report last season while leading the team in tackles (191, including 121 solo) for the fifth consecutive season.
He practiced during the open OTAs the past two weeks, but Frazier said he had been feeling “a little tension” and “some tenderness” in the knee.
An MRI and revealed the need for the procedure. Linebacker is one of the vikings real question marks this season, and Greenway is their most established player at the position.
