The Department of Natural Resources reports that an elderly McGregor woman is recovering at home after being hospitalized by a bear attack her earlier this week.

A female black bear attacked 72-year-old Darlene Baglio on Monday night in Aitkin County. According to DNR officials, neighbors said they saw the mother bear with three yearlings just days before the attack.

DNR officials said Baglio knew the bears were near her home for days before the attack, but she didn’t see them when she let out her golden retriever.

However,  the dog ran off the home’s deck to chase the three yearlings, and Baglio followed shouting for the dog and the attack ensued. The woman had told neighbors that the bears were after her bird feeders on Saturday, and things took a turn for the worse on Monday. Again, the woman survived and is resting at home now as she recovers.
