Pine City Man Dies After Train/Semi Crash

Monday, May 13th, 2013 at 10:20 am

The driver of a semi that collided with a freight train in western Minnesota last week has died.

A St. Cloud Hospital spokesperson told the Fort Mill Times that Eric Westin, of Pine City, died early Monday morning.

Westin was hauling a load of anhydrous ammonia when his tanker was hit by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train near Murdock in Swift County last Tuesday. The train’s engine pushed the semi off the road and caused a rupture and leak which led to a temporary evacuation of the area.

Three train crew members who were injured were also treated at a hospital and released.
