Pine County Search & Rescue Performs Drill

The Pine County Sheriff’s Office search and rescue team conducted its April training at the Willow River Dam on Thursday, April 25th.

The team used the high water conditions to practice with one of the two rapid rescue crafts owned by the Sheriff’s Office. The rapid rescue “banana” boats are transported deflated, inside a duffle bag and are inflated in a matter of minutes using a canister of compressed air.

They can be used on water or ice, and are well suited for use in fast water where a regular boat might be swamped. Both boats were purchased with grant money and Sheriff Cole anticipates purchasing a third this year.
