Press Release from PCSO:

On 4-20-2013, at about 1630 hours the Pine County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the Burnett County Wisconsin Sheriff’s Office that two Wisconsin DNR Wardens had located a body floating in the Saint Croix River near its convergence with the Snake River on the Minnesota side of the river.

A Pine County Sheriff’s Deputy, with the assistance of the two Wardens, secured the body to a boat and towed the remains to Soderbeck landing just north of Pine County Highway 8. At the landing, the Pine City Fire Department assisted in removing the remains from the river and placing them in the transport van.

The remains were transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner and identified as the remains of James Harlan Frentress (Born 1969).

Frentress was reported missing on 2-16-2013 after his snowmobile broke through the ice as he was traveling on the river with a group of friends. A search at the time of the accident failed to recover his body.

The Pine County Sheriff’s Office had planned a large search to recover Frentress on 4-25-2013. This effort has now been cancelled.

Next of kin has been notified.
