Winfield To Seahawks Getting Closer?
Some Vikings fans are on pins and needles today as free-agent cornerback Antoine Winfield is reportedly getting close to agreeing to contract terms with the Seattle Seahawks.
ESPN is citing league sources who say that Winfield, who will turn 36 this season, could sign with Seattle today. Winfield visited the Seahawks on Tuesday after meeting with the Washington Redskins last week.
If the Seahawks sign Winfield, it would further strengthen one of the league’s premier secondaries. Winfield could be the slot corner with starters Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner playing outside. Sherman and Browner combined for 11 interceptions last season, but no other Seattle cornerback contributed any to the team total.
Winfield was surprised when the Vikings released him last month, making him an unrestricted free agent. Vikes coach Leslie Frasier has said that he hopes Winfield will return to Minnesota at a reduced price and with a reduced role.
