Around 100 people attended the opening session of the firearms safety class at Pine City high School last night. The class is made posible by the Snake River valley conservation club, the Pine City VFW, Mn. Deer Hunter’s (Jim Jordan Chapter) and Pheasants Forever. It aims to to teach the safe and ethical use of firearms to participants who are seeking certification in hunters safety. Pine County commissioner Steve Hallan was on hand for the introduction and he said the key of the four week course was threefold.

“Have fun, be safe, and learn something,” Hallan said of his hopes for the students.

The course will meet each of the next three Tuesdays now, and 100% attendance is required to pass. Students will also be given a test, and a field trip to a nearby firing range has been planned for later in the month.
