Opening Day: Twins To Host Tigers In Cold Temps

Monday, April 1st, 2013 at 6:51 am

Today is the day baseball fans have been waiting for all offseason. Even though the Astros belted the Rangers 8-2 on Sunday night, Monday is really opening day.

The Twins will brave the elements at Target Field and play early April baseball in weather that feels like February. Opening day starter of Vance Worley will face the Detroit Tigers and Justin Verlander. After losing 99 and 96 games en route to last-place finishes in the American League Central the past two seasons, some Twins fans are complaining that the team didn’t do enough in the offseason to improve, although the pitching staff has added some young arms and deck has been reshuffled.

Manager Ron Gardenhire is quite possibly on the thinnest ice during his tenure with the club and will need this bunch to overachieve to turn public sentiment. We’ll carry the first pitch of the Twins season this afternoon at 3:10 on 100.9 Cool Country.
