It’s been more than three weeks since the ex-husband of a Cloquet attempted murder suspect disappeared. On Thursday, he was charged with child neglect.

Thirty-seven-year-old John Edwin Bemis was last seen on January 7, one day after police say his ex-wife Marie Majerle, shot her current husband in Cloquet. Bemis was formerly married to Majerle, who’s since been charged for allegedly shooting her current husband, Richard Majerle.

As we’ve reported before, the Majerles were in the process of getting a divorce. Bemis is not a suspect in this case, but could be a possible material witness to the shooting.

However, Carlton Carlton County Attorney Thom Pertler told WDIO that Bemis left after Marie Majerle’s arrest, leaving the 14-year-old daughter they share alone.

There is now a warrant out for his arrest. Police still have no new leads on his whereabouts.
