Bayfield Man Dies After Falling Through Ice On Snowmobile

The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office has reported that 34-year-old James Hudson died Saturday afternoon after his snowmobile fell through the ice of Lake Superior.

Officials from the Coast Guard state a witness tried rescuing Hudson from the shore, but the witness couldn’t stay grounded on steady ice. He was said to have been in the 33 degree water for approximately 45 minutes.

Hudson was a well-known fishing guide in the area, hailing from Bayfield. He was transported to Memorial Hospital in Ashland were he was pronounced dead.
