A 59-year-old New York woman was airlifted to a Twin Cities hospital following a two-vehicle crash in Polk County on Saturday afternoon, Jan.19. Officials believe the accident may have been caused by high winds.

The Inter County Leader reports that high winds blew against Dodge truck towing an enclosed snomobile trailer, and caused the man driving that trailer to lose control. The Leader reports the driver was 62-year old Roger Thompson of Frederic, who was traveling north on Hwy. 35, north of Hwy. 8. When Thompson lost control, his vehicle spun into the southbound traffic land of 35 where the trailer was struck by a southbound 2011 Kia sport utility vehicle that was being operated by 59-year old Susan R. Laclair of Rochester, New York.

After the crash, The Leader reports that Laclair, along with her 75-year old passenger Carol R. VanBuskirk of St. Croix Falls, were extricated from their vehicle and then transported to St. Croix Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. Laclair was transported by air ambulance to a Twin Cities hospital for further treatment of her injuries. No update on her status has been given.

The crash, which occurred at approximately 3 p.m. Saturday, remains under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s office.
