The woman whose body was found in the woods near Chetek on Christmas Day was identified Thursday.

The body of Laurie J. Lindig, 43, of Chetek, was found near 866 22nd Street, just west of Chetek.

An autopsy is being conducted by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald told reporters that her body showed no signs of trauma and her cause of death was likely hypothermia.

WEAU reports that Lindig’s fiancee said she left to go on a walk and never came back.

Noone seems to know why the mother of two boys, ages 11 and 14, would go to the dead end road, on a cold night, not knowing anyone who lives there. Lindig’s body was found in a wooded area.
