Man Dies When Hit By Vehicle Near Brook Park

On Sunday, a terrible set of events led to the untimely death of a man near Brook Park. Pine County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of a vehicle / pedestrian accident on State Highway 23 near Wildwood Road in Brook Park,and when they arrived they found a Minnesota State Trooper attending to a seriously injured male lying in the roadway.

Officers continued to render first aid until Essentia ambulance arrived and transported the victim to the hospital in Sandstone and ultimately to Saint Mary’s hospital in Duluth, where the victim was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.

Pine County Sheriff’s Investigators were dispatched to the scene. Preliminary investigation shows that the victim and another male relative had been drinking together at a local tavern. An altercation occurred and the two men left the tavern in their pick-up truck. During the drive home the two men argued, stopped the pick-up, exited the vehicle and engaged in a scuffle.

The male relative reentered the pick-up and drove away leaving the victim along the road. Investigators found what appear to be a set of the victims foot prints leading from the site of the scuffle, traveling down a county road and onto State Highway 23 where the victim was struck by a motorist.

The motorist remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, no charges were issued. The adult male relative was located at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, where he was charged with DWI by the Minnesota State Patrol. This incident remains under investigation by the Pine County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol.
