Man Shoots Ex-Wife, Kills Self In Pine County
On Wednesday evening just after 9pm, the Pine County Sheriff’s Office recieved a 911 call reporting that a shooting had occurred at a residence on Sunny Hill Road in rural Pine County.
Information from the reporting party was that a woman was saying she had been shot by her ex-husband via text message. That text, sent by the victim to a neighbor, stated that she had been shot and that the shooter was still present inside the house on Sunny Hill Road.
Deputies from the Pine County and Chisago County Sheriff’s Offices responded to the scene and established a perimeter around the house. Numerous attempts were made to contact the female resident by phone and text, with no response.
A Pine County Sheriff’s Supervisor was finally able to make contact with a male party who exited the house and was standing on the front deck. This party failed to comply with verbal commands to move away from the house, and subsequently reentered the dwelling. At this time all of the lights in the house were turned off.
Shortly thereafter, the ex-husbands vehicle was located parked at a seasonal cabin a quarter mile from the Sunny Hill Road address , and responding Deputies received information of prior domestic related calls to this address involving the ex-husband.
Members of the Pine County SWAT Team entered the house and located the female resident with a gunshot wound to her upper chest. The female resident was removed from the home and rushed by waiting ambulance to the hospital.
The ex-husband was cornered in the living room by officers, where he threatened suicide while holding a pistol to his head.
Over the next two hours officers of the Pine and Chisago County SWAT Teams attempted to convince the ex-husband to surrender. The ex-husband was pronounced dead by self inflicted gunshot wound at the scene.
The female victim was transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, where she is listed in serious condition. The incident is currently under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Names are withheld pending notifications.
